Donald Trump has given Rep. Jim Jordan his “full and total endorsement” for Speaker of the House following the unceremonious impeachment of Kevin McCarthy. The 45th president says he would also be willing to step in temporarily if necessary.
The former president said Jordan, who heads the House Freedom Caucus and chairs the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on Federal Government Armaments, was strong on borders, crime, the gun rights and veterans, and would be a “GREAT” speaker.
However, if House Republicans cannot select a speaker from among their ranks, he has indicated that he is willing to answer calls from some members for him to fill the position himself.
“I’ve been asked to speak as a unifier because I have a lot of friends in Congress,” Trump said. “If they don’t get the votes, they asked me if I would consider taking the presidency until they get someone long-term, because I’m running for the presidency,” he explained.
