Trump says illegal immigrants 'poison the blood of our country'

-

Former President Donald Trump did not apologize for his recent comments on immigration, instead choosing to double down on his warning about those entering the country illegally.

Trump addressed the crisis from his critics as he returned to unnerving comparisons to Adolf Hitler at a campaign rally in Iowa on Tuesday.

Democrats were apoplectic after his opening remarks in New Hampshire over the weekend as he talked about America's open border and the dangers it poses.

“You know, when they leave … I think the real number is 15, 16 million people in our country, when they do, we have a lot of work to do. They're poisoning the blood of our country. That's what they've done ”, he had said.

In an all-caps message posted on his Truth Social account, the former president claimed: “Illegal immigration is poisoning the blood of our nation. They come from prisons, from mental institutions, from all over the world.”

Dismay from Democrats and others on the left was immediate, with many claiming the remarks echoed a section of Hitler's “Mein Kampf” where he had written: “All the great cultures of the past they died only because the originally creative race became extinct. by blood poisoning.”

On Tuesday, Trump had a chance to respond.

“They're being thrown across the border and pouring into our country, and no one said to check them,” he said from Waterloo, Iowa.

“It's crazy what's going on. They're ruining our country. And it's true. They're ruining the blood of our country. That's what they're doing. They're ruining our country,” the 2024 GOP leader said in the 'campaign act.

“They don't like it when I said that, and I never read Mein Kampf. They said, 'Oh, Hitler said that,' in a very different way,” he continued.

“Now they come from all over the world. People from all over the world. We have no idea. They could be healthy, they could be very unhealthy. They could bring diseases that will apply to our country. But they do carry crime. But they have come from all over the world”, added the former president.

Despite the backlash from his critics who never seem to make the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants, Trump found much agreement among social media users.
