Former President Donald Trump confirmed on Fox News Monday evening that he would be willing to declassify the investigation into his assassination attempt if he wins a second term this November.
Trump and his running mate, Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance, appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime” to discuss the July 13 assassination attempt on the former president and the events leading up to the attack Fox News host Jesse Watters asked the former president if he would declassify investigative files if he won the White House this year.
“I wish so. There shouldn't be anything to hide here,” Trump said. “But I think frankly, a lot is known right now. But some of the things that are known are bad. How did someone get on the roof and why wasn't it reported? Because people saw that he was on the roof. You had Trumpers screaming. The woman in the red shirt was shouting: “There is a man on the roof”. And other people are [saying]”There's a man on the roof with a gun.”
“And that was a little bit before I got on stage. So you would have thought somebody would have done something about it,” Trump said.

Following the assassination attempt on Trump by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle received a major backlash as reports of apparent security lapses began to emerge . During one of his first interviews with ABC News, Cheatle pointed out the agency had been responsible for the inner perimeter of the rally site, stating that the outer perimeter, which was where Crooks was, was under the eye of local law enforcement.
Various reports have indicated that Crooks had plenty of time throughout the day reach left the area in a drone and was allegedly spotted by local law enforcement approximately 30 minutes before the attack, according to anonymous law enforcement sources, WPXI reported.
A law enforcement officer had also reached the top of the roof and spotted Crooks, but retreated down a ladder when the 20-year-old turned his AR-style rifle on the officer, according to The Association Press.
In a recent letter sent to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas by Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley, a whistleblower familiar with the Secret Service's planning, says security had been posted on the roof before the rally but later stepped down because of the “hot weather”. The new allegations come after Cheatle previously claimed that security had not been stationed at the building because the roof was “leaning,” according to NBC News.
