Trump leads Republican candidates in latest Iowa poll

-

Former President Donald Trump earned the highest level of support among likely caucus-goers in a recent poll in Iowa, NBC News reported.

Trump is currently the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination with more than 60% support among primary voters nationwide. seconds to a RealClearPolitics average of all major polls. Trump has 51% support among first-preference Iowa registered voters, seconds to a new Seltzer & Company poll commissioned by NBC News, The Des Moines Register and Mediacom.

“With all the other candidates, it doesn't matter. No matter what they say, no matter what they do. Because automatically, my vote is going to go to Trump no matter what,” said Timothy Blackerby, a 67-year-old Iowa resident and pollster. he said NBC news.

“They can promise me a million dollars. I tell them to keep it. And I'd still vote for Trump,” Blackerby said.

Trump's lead is the largest the poll has recorded anywhere near a competitive caucus, NBC reported.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida received 19% support as the respondents' first preference and 30% support as the second preference, the highest among the latter category. Former Republican Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina has 16 percent support, with the other candidates polling in the single digits.

Support for Trump as respondents' first preference rose from 43 percent in October, the last iteration of the poll, according to NBC News.

The poll also looked at the persuasion of Iowa caucusgoers that they will hold their own caucus on January 15. Trump also earned the highest favorability rating among respondents at 72 percent, second only to Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds of Iowa, who has endorsed DeSantis.

The poll was conducted between December 2 and 7, 2023, and polled 502 likely Republican attendees in Iowa, with a margin of error of ±4.4 percentage points.
