Trump credits ex-Gambino mobster 'Sammy the Bull' for character boost

-

The former president raised eyebrows again with his latest mob reference, publicly thanking a hitman.

Having previously compared the law against him to federal efforts to take down notorious gangster Al Capone, former President Donald Trump invoked the New York mob early Saturday morning. This time, sharing an excerpt from a recent interview with YouTuber DJ Vlad, the president called former Gambino crime family hitman Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano as a character witness.

“Thanks to Sammy the Bull,” Trump captioned the less than minute-long video clip before calling on Judges Arthur Engoron and Lewis Kaplan from his civil fraud trial and his upcoming libel trial against E. Jean Carroll, respectively. “I hope Judges Engoron and Kaplan see this. We need justice, strength and honesty in our New York courts. Now we don't have it!”

In the highlight of the interview, Gravano, known for his role as a government witness in the prosecution of John Gotti, told the interviewer about the futile efforts to implicate Trump with the mob.

“I tried a couple of times to put pressure on him and make arrangements where I could work with him and win. I did it with other big contractors, he had union power and could do all kinds of little things, but I couldn't get to him. He won't bite,” said the former hitman who had served a 20-year sentence on drug-trafficking charges related to an ecstasy operation in Arizona.

“I just didn't bite. I didn't want to do anything like that and there were layers of people in the middle,” explained the former criminal deputy chief.

Gravano went on to explain how when it was suggested to go directly to Trump, he explained that the then businessman was surrounded by former FBI agents and they would only get themselves arrested. “So forget about Trump, he's a legit man, he doesn't want to do it, forget about Trump.”

Known for being indiscriminate when it comes to people who praise him, the president faced criticism from the left for sharing the former hitman's testimony, as Gravano's own record was seen as an indictment against Trump instead of supporting the idea that the businessman could not. be transferred to work with the mob.

MeidasTouch Editor-in-Chief Ron Filipkowski wrote: “Trump thanks Gambino Crime Family member, rat and serial liar Sammy 'the Bull' Gravano, who confessed to 19 murders and countless kidnappings, armed robberies , robberies and thousands of other crimes to vouch for him. The new testimony of Trump's character.”

Meanwhile, others saw it as a direct death threat to the judges because of Gravano's history.

By contrast, the president's fervent supporters made no attempt to drag out some underlying meaning and instead focused on what the former hit man was actually saying.
