The elements of a tradition had U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau celebrating his win with a shout-out to the former president while sharing a “Trump pour” with friend Eric Trump.
“You have everything.”
On Sunday at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, DeChambeau beat Rory McIlroy for his second career tournament win. As he did in 2020 after defeating Matthew Wolff, the LIV Golf competitor celebrated with the son of former President Donald Trump. The GOP leader offered his own congratulations at the Trump National Golf Club Westchester in Briarcliff Manor, New York.
“You can't win tournaments without a long ball, like Babe Ruth. You have to be a long ball hitter. You have everything. You have the long ball. And you have everything else,” Trump said in a video shared by attorney Alina Habba while quoting someone who had claimed DeChambeau was “the closest thing we've ever seen to Arnold Palmer.”
Elsewhere on social media, the president's son captured the full extent of a trophy celebration as the golfer loaded up his 'thing' with red wine and said: “This is amazing,” alongside the caption, “Proud to call this man a friend!”
As he filled the trophy, Eric Trump was heard saying in another video of the moment, “Now it's a full trophy, ladies and gentlemen. This is a Trump dump.”
After putting down the bottle, DeChambeau was presented with the award and took a long swig of wine as onlookers chanted, “Chug!”
Although he didn't attend himself, the president shared the ongoing revelry following his message to the winner with a post of the golfer swinging in the dark at his club with the illuminated trophy at his side. “Bryson hit a beauty at Trump National Westchester a while ago. What a great ride!!!”
On Truth Social, the former Commander-in-Chief also took a dig at the ongoing merger negotiations between the Saudi-backed LIV and the PGA as he wrote: “Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau for his amazing He WON the US Open! He showed a toughness and inner strength, perfectly combined with his GREAT golf talent! Under massive pressure, he hit some of the best shots ever, especially the his spectacular par on the 18th hole that gave him the win. 'Mr. 58' has always been a WINNER and will go on to many more Majors.”
“He's a really tough competitor, even a nasty one, but he also happens to be a great guy,” Trump said. “The USA could not be better represented. Kudos also to LIV Golf for their genius in signing Bryson and other top golfers in the world. Hopefully the Gulf will soon come together as one, fully united, which is as it should be!”
