Former President Donald Trump's campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Tuesday alleging that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are violating campaign finance laws after transferring $91.5 million to the Harris campaign.
The complaint, which was the first reported by The New York Times, was presented by Trump's the campaign's general counsel, David Warrington, and comes after Harris announced his confirmation of delegates to be the new presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
“Kamala Harris is attempting to perpetrate a $91.5 million theft of Joe Biden's leftover campaign cash, a brazen cash grab that would constitute the largest excessive contribution and violation of the Campaign Act in history federal election of 1971, as amended”. Warrington wrote.
Trump's attorney general called out Biden, Harris and the campaign treasurer for “flagrantly violating the Act by making and receiving an excessive contribution of nearly one hundred million dollars, and for filing fraudulent forms with the Commission that purport to reuse the primary campaign committee of one candidate for the use of another candidate.”
Harris announced confirmation of the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August, having received more than 3,000 delegate commitments, exceeding the need for 1,976 delegates. seconds in The Associated Press.
The Democrat's change of candidate comes after Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race on Sunday. The president posted a letter on X (formerly known as Twitter) saying that while he intended to continue his re-election bid, he believed it would be better for the party and the country if he focused on the rest of the his mandate
In a second post, Biden endorsed Harris as the next nominee, calling on Democrats to “unite and beat Trump.”
Since the announcement, the vice president has received an outpouring of support from both lawmakers and Democratic donors, surpassing $100 million since Biden's withdrawal, seconds on the BBC.
The White House, the Trump campaign and the FEC did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
