Former President Donald Trump has vowed to change the nation's capital if he wins the election, slamming the current state of Washington, DC as a “rat-infested, graffiti-infested piece of shit.”
During a campaign rally in Iowa, just before the first critical Republican caucus, Trump promised to clean up the “horribly run” city and even appeared to suggest that he take Mayor Muriel Bowser's job.
“We're going to take control of our nation's horribly run capital. It's horribly run,” the GOP front-runner said Sunday.
“We have a capital that we all love. Right now, it's rat-infested, graffiti-infested shit where people are being killed,” Trump told the crowd.

“Homicides rose 35 percent in 2023 in Washington, while burglaries and carjackings essentially doubled. Carjacking victims in DC last year included a US congressman (yes) and a diplomat from the United Arab Emirates,” seconds in the Associated Press.
“Violent crime jumped in several US cities during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. But while homicides have dropped since the pandemic in places like New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore, the trends have only accelerated in Washington,” the report added.
Trump promised to “clean up” the city where the Democratic mayor was elected to three consecutive terms.
“We will take it to the mayor. That doesn't make me popular there, but I have to say it,” he said.
“We have to manage our capital in an incredible way. We have to remove the graffiti from those magnificent marble columns all over the city where they have swastikas printed on them, where they have the names of people who have hearts. People who are in love and write a heart”, he continued.
In recent months, activists have begun defacing property in protest of the US government's support for Israel.

“We will clean our capital, we will eliminate the slums. We have slums. We will have the most beautiful capital in the world”, promised the former president.
Trump's criticism of the nation's capital is not the first, as he and Bowser have traded verbal barbs over the years.
After a court appearance last summer, he told reporters that it was “very sad to drive through Washington, DC and see the filth and decay and all the buildings and broken walls and graffiti. This is not the place that I left.”
“Thefts increased by 67% last year,” SO reported on DC's staggering numbers, “with 3,470 people reporting being stolen in 2023. Vehicle thefts increased 82% with 6,829 people reporting a stolen vehicle. Fires, which are generally infrequent, they increased by 175% with 11 cases reported in 2023, compared to just four in 2022.”
“With 40 homicides per 100,000 residents, D.C. ranked fifth nationally for homicide rates per capita. The numbers are 36 percent higher than those seen in 2022,” the outlet added.
