Former President Donald J. Trump has survived an assassination attempt, being mowed down by a gunman who, had he not moved his head, likely would have killed him on live television.
On Saturday, the presumptive Republican nominee in 2024 was speaking to a crowd of supporters at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when shots were fired, one of which struck Trump, who was led off the stage by Secret Service agents and transferred to a hospital.
But before he was led away, a bloodied but unbowed Trump threw his fist in the air, an iconic image of these troubled times and one that is almost certain to bolster his support less than four months before the crucial election.

“During former President Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the evening of July 13 at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired several shots into the stage from an elevated position outside the venue of the rally. US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now dead. The US Secret Service responded quickly with protective measures. One bystander was killed and two bystanders are gone be seriously injured. This incident is currently under investigation and has been reported to the FBI,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
Two people have now died, one of whom was a bystander attending the demonstration who was struck by gunfire, and the other the alleged attempted killer who has been identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, PA.
Given the irresponsible and hateful rhetoric of the Democrats and their media minions, critics suggested that it was only a matter of time before someone took a shot at Trump, and that day has already arrived.
At the head of those who fueled the anger against Trump has been President Joe Biden who on July 8 said“We're done talking about the debate, time to put Trump in a crosshairs.”
“Democrats and the media are to blame for every drop of blood spilled today,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) wrote to X after the assassination attempt. “For years and years, they've demonized him and his supporters.”

“God protected President Trump,” said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), a potential running mate who shared the iconic image of a bloodied Trump on X.

The image, which would come to define Trump in the history books, was also shared by others on the platform, including former Navy SEAL Robert J. O'Neil, the man credited with killing the terrorist demon Osama bin Laden.

“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their quick response to the shooting that just happened in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person who died at the demonstration and also the family of another person who was seriously injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. At the moment, nothing is known about the shooter, who is now dead.” Trump said in a statement.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the top of my right ear. I immediately knew something was wrong as I heard a hissing, gunshots and immediately felt the bullet tear the skin. It had -there's a lot of bleeding, so I realized what was going on. GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Trump said, describing the terrifying moment that almost took his life.
The assassination attempt comes days before Trump is formally nominated at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, WI.
