Well, folks, here’s the latest out of Tennessee: a Trump-appointed federal judge has ruled that the state’s anti-drag show law is “unconstitutional.” Now, I don’t know about you, but I find this ruling to be highly concerning.
Let’s back up a bit. This law, which was passed back in 2015, prohibited performances that “include nudity, sexual conduct, or sexual excitement.” Sounds pretty reasonable to me, right? Well, apparently not to some folks. A group of drag performers sued the state, arguing that the law violated their First Amendment rights to free expression.
And now we have this judge, Aleta Trauger, saying that the law is unconstitutional. She wrote in her ruling that “drag performances are protected speech” and that “the state has not shown that its regulation of drag shows advances a significant government interest.”
Excuse me, but what about the interest in protecting public decency and morality? Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t think we should be promoting shows that celebrate sexual deviancy and cross-dressing. This ruling is just another example of the left’s ongoing assault on our traditional values.
But let’s not forget that this judge was appointed by President Trump, who has done so much for our country in just a few short years. Under his leadership, we’ve seen record-low unemployment, tax cuts for the middle class, and historic peace deals in the Middle East. Whether you agree with his style or not, you can’t deny that he’s been one of the most effective presidents in recent memory. So let’s not get too bogged down in these liberal court rulings – we’ve got a lot to be proud of as Americans under President Trump’s leadership.
