TPUSA hosted its big annual conference this past weekend, drawing crowds of conservative voters and especially young people. However, this year brought even more fire and fury. The base has never been so ready for a battle…

As usual, TPUSA conducted its “straw poll” to gauge where the current field of primary candidates stands with the base. This year, the results were quite surprising. President Trump has such a large lead in the poll that he has essentially left everyone else in the dust. However, the real surprise isn’t their lead, but who comes second. Contrary to what you might think, Governor Ron DeSantis didn’t get the job. Instead, the second place went to the populist Vivek Ramaswamy.

This survey probably didn’t come as a surprise to the people at the conference, after all, that was the reception Vivek received from TPUSA attendees.

Vivek has won the hearts and minds of many conservatives with strong, bold messages like this one about the corrupt FBI and other Deep State institutions. He doesn’t want them to reform, he wants them to close.

Vivek has a remarkably compelling way of relating to people, as you’ll see in this clip of a distressed woman discussing abortion. He exudes a relatable “human element” that looks a lot like President Trump.

Vivek has also led the charge against the radical and dangerous transgender movement, using much-needed common sense and real science to support his arguments.

But it was Vivek’s interview with Tucker Carlson that really put him on the map. His response to a question about January 6 shows that Vivek is not only afraid, but deeply connected to the emotions of Trump’s base.

Trump’s base adores Vivek. He has a great attitude, strong and grounded convictions, “gets it” and is a DC outsider, always a plus.

This sudden rise in Vivek has to worry DeSantis, who continues to lag in all polls. Clearly there are internal problems with the campaign; Ron has not lived up to the high expectations set for him. NBC News reported that DeSantis is letting go a dozen staffers, with more to come, as he tries to “reboot” his campaign. This GOP primary is definitely full of unexpected twists and turns.
