A couple of weeks ago, I was the one first to report that the Chinese government paid for Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz's “cultural exchange” programs with his students in China.
But I was left with questions about how this funding came about.
As it turns out, the answer is simple. Walz had a friend in the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He admitted it in the Sunday, January 9, 1994 edition The Star-Heralda local newspaper in Scottsbluff, NE.
“With eight other adult sponsors, Walz took 26 teenagers to China in 1993,” the newspaper reported in a now widely known story about Walz's honeymoon in China. “The exchange was arranged by a friend of Walz's in China's foreign affairs department.”

The Chinese government cultivates spies who work for them for decades.
Earlier this month, Shujun Wang, a former academic from Flushing, Queens, was convicted of espionage. He became a Chinese spy in the 1980s, moved to the US in 1994 and co-founded a non-profit organization called the Hu Yaobang Zhao Ziyang Memorial Foundation., a “pro-democracy” group that was actually a front for Wang to inform his superiors about the feelings of Chinese Americans about democracy in China.
He spent 30 years in the United States before being caught, and throughout his spy career returned to Fashon and Guangzhou to meet with handlers.
It is worth noting that Walz also visited Fashon and Guangzhou during his 1994 “cultural exchange” trip, according to a December 28, 1993 report in another local news outlet, Chadron's record.
