A man convicted of murder was summarily executed in front of his victim's family and thousands of others at a soccer stadium Monday by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
“The man, found guilty of a knife murder in January 2022, was executed in the northern city of Sheberghan on a death warrant signed by Taliban chief Hibatullah Akhundzada, a Supreme Court statement said.” said the Supreme Court. daily mail reported

Amnesty International has described the Taliban government's policy of executions as “a serious insult to human dignity”.
“Carrying out public executions adds to the inherent cruelty of the death penalty,” the agency said in a statement.
“The development was ominous as the Taliban, despite initial promises of a more moderate government, began carrying out severe public punishments (executions, floggings and stonings) soon after coming to power.
