Cruises are something that people either love or hate. After all, seasickness is real, and the idea of being confined to a floating ship is not appealing to many.
However, for those of you who enjoy cruising, there is a new residential cruise line that offers rather affordable accommodation for those who want to sail full time.
A new residential cruise startup plans to begin sailing around the world in May 2024. But unlike the only one currently in operation (a luxury concept with multimillion-dollar condos), the cabins on the future ship of Villa Vie Residences start at $100,000.
Over the past year, oceanfront condo concepts have flooded the market. Relatively new companies like Victoria Cruises Line and Life at Sea Cruises say they will give travelers the chance to spend years sailing the seas and living on refurbished ships. Both, however, have faced shake-ups such as postponements or vessel changes.
Storylines is taking a different approach by building its own residential ship, although the company has also had to delay its departure date.
And it’s been working for 20 years. But good luck buying a room: Ten to twelve of his luxury apartments go up for sale annually, each costing $2 million to $15 million.
Villa Vie says that from here its ship will embark on a 3 1/2 year circumnavigation of the world, stopping at 425 ports in 147 countries on its first round.
There will also be multi-day stops at some ports, including a scheduled 12-day dry dock in Singapore, the company’s prospectus said.
These start at $4,360 for the latest 35-day transatlantic crossing from Barcelona, Spain to West Palm Beach, Florida.
This sounds like a great option for retirees looking to explore the world in their golden years.
Personally, I’d love to cruise for a month or so, but beyond that, I don’t think I could live full-time on a cruise ship.
Honestly, I might find myself going overboard at some point!
