A key GOP chair questioned the seriousness of the Biden investigations during a back-and-forth: 'This is not evidence!'

With the House Oversight and Accountability Committee's announcement Thursday that Hunter Biden would sit for impeachment, committee chairman Kentucky Rep. James Comer (R) was all too ready to declare victory. However, Newsmax host Eric Bolling easily rained on that parade, as he questioned how good speculative evidence is when Americans are looking for tangible accountability.
“I want Hunter Biden to come in and answer those questions,” Comer said during his appearance on “The Balance” on Thursday. “We won the battle because Hunter Biden doesn't want to come in. There's no good answer to these questions and to . . .”
“But if you come in, sir, and plead the Fifth 150 times, who wins?” the host backed away.
“Well, then I think we win. I think the American people see that this is a shady scheme of influence peddling. The president of the United States was the central figure,” replied the congressman, apparently willing to reiterate charges against then-Vice President Joe Biden and his family for criminal bribery before he was stopped.
“Sir, respectfully, respectfully, President, if he comes in, don't look down on him, he's capable of waltzing the way the waltz entered all cocky and cocky with his buddies on the side, yes, there was the Secret Service. But these two guys weren't flanking the Secret Service; he's doing it again, he's got the cameras rolling. Enter and plead the Fifth 100 times. I can't say you've won,” said Bolling. “I… listen, I want you to win. I want you to win. I want the American people to win. That guy is as corrupt and criminal as they come. We all want to see him accountable. That's why I say, you know, go ahead . I'm sorry. The flat is yours.”
Resuming his argument, Comer said he and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan were “in agreement.”
“We want Hunter Biden in. If he can't answer the questions, if he asks for the Fifth, then I think everybody in America knows the answer,” the lawmaker argued. “They know there were 20 fictitious companies. They know the Bidens took $27 million from our enemies around the world. They know that Joe Biden was a central figure in this case. If we don't bring him to a statement, then the media will try to continue to plant seeds of doubt in the minds of the American people that, well, now this wasn't something Joe Biden was involved in…
Pressed for Comer to frame a victory that included no concrete consequences after proving the allegations against the Bidens in a trial, Bolling said: “Call me crazy … I prefer the former. I'd like to see him arrested and you don't get 100 times your “I Declare the Fifth” and I don't think “I Declare the Fifth”; you can't even use that. You can't even use that! That's not proof!”
The GOP congressman responded with a suggestion that the matter was coming to a conclusion one way or another while addressing disputes over how a hearing would be conducted.
“They have been saying they wanted a public hearing! Look, they've killed me in the press saying we're not going to give him a public hearing. He may have a public hearing, but you know damn well he doesn't want a public hearing,” Comer said. “He doesn't want to come in and defend the fifth on TV. Bring him on! [We’re] you will have the opportunity to answer questions. If he can't answer the questions, then it's pretty much case closed.”
Hunter Biden is expected to sit down for deposition on February 28 before the House Oversight Committee.
