ABC News changed its transcript of President Joe Biden's remarks during his high-stakes interview with anchor George Stephanopoulos that aired Friday.
The interview, which was Biden's first since his disastrous showing at the CNN presidential debate the previous week, was a chance for the geriatric incumbent to push back against critics who called for him to resign and cede the Democratic nomination to Vice President Kamala Harris.
But it wasn't the success the White House was hoping for with the 81-year-old seen as a delusional egomaniac who said only God could make him drop out of the 2024 race and was mocked by Biden for saying that “ d to do the “best job” he could to prevent Donald J. Trump from returning to power.

Although it was on video for all to see and hear, the White House was furious and bullied the network into changing its official transcript to replace the “best job” with a more coherent version of Biden's comments, explaining that 'had “updated for clarity.”
According to the initial version of the transcript that was released Friday, Biden said, “I'm going to feel as long as I've given it my all and done the best job that I know I can do, that's what it's all about.”
On Saturday, it had been revised to read: “I'll always feel like I've given it my all and done the best job I know I can do, that's what it's all about.”
“After Friday's interview, White House stenographers, who are not political appointees and regularly record all of the president's public comments, noticed a difference between their recordings and the ABC transcript, according to one person familiar with the situation,” the New York Times said. reported. “This led a White House official to raise the question of the accuracy of the appointment with ABC representatives on Saturday morning,” the person said.
In addition to ABC, the White House as well pressed New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd for changing the “best” she had used in an interview column.

“After my column was published Saturday morning, TJ Ducklo, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, emailed me to 'mark' that ABC News had updated its transcript to read: 'I will feel whenever I have given everything and done good. for the work I know I can do, that's what it's all about,'” Dowd wrote.
“Ducklo asked me if I could 'tweak' the column and change the word 'better' to make my piece 'consistent with the corrected transcript,' even though the revised version was also gobbledygook,” he added, and wrote that he told the White House. apparatchik that the editor would have directed it.
“Yeah, again, that's not what I think. That's what ABC News, which did the interview, thinks. I think it would be pretty unusual for the Times to claim that the president said something that the news organization that conducting the interview says he didn't say…” Ducklo replied.
In another email from the columnist and her editor, Dowd asked if ABC News changed it on its own or after being harassed by the White House.
“ABC News, like any news organization, makes its own independent editorial decisions,” Ducklo responded, according to Dowd. “Surely you're not suggesting otherwise.”
The Times attached notes to her column and all other stories that used the “best,” the columnist said
“It might sound like a lot of buzz for the best. But it's a harbinger of tense times ahead between a White House in bunker mode and a press corps in ferret mode,” Dowd wrote. “Maybe the White House should think about captions.”
It was just the latest example of how the most cynical and dishonest White House in history has been able to work with media arbiters to make the nation believe that Biden has not been a mentally drained version of his former self, a big lie as Americans saw during the CNN debate.
