The Virginia Dems’ control of the state senate may hinge on whether the member lied about residency

-

Although Virginia Democrats won the state House in last week’s election, they may be on track to lose the state Senate, where they currently hold just one seat.

The reason is because of allegations that Democratic Sen. Ghazala Hashmi is ineligible for office because she lied about where she lives, according to an exclusive investigation by The Daily Wire.

“Virginia Senate candidates must live in the district they’re running for, and Hashmi filed his candidacy paperwork saying he lived in an apartment on Boulder Lake Drive in North Chesterfield in Senate District 15,” the outlet notes .

The problem is that four of his neighbors have filed a complaint alleging that he lives outside the district, reportedly on Bosham Lane in Midlothian.

To prove their claim, they produced a spreadsheet documenting how they had driven past his home in Bosham Lane at least 62 times in October and noted that his car was there at night but disappeared after 8:00 in the morning.

Even if Hashmi may actually live in North Chesterfield, his ownership of the house in Midlothian would still be a problem, indeed a criminal problem.

“The certificate of candidacy, which he signed on March 14, 2023, says: ‘I now live at the address shown below in the district where I am seeking office,'” under which he listed the apartment of North Chesterfield,” according to The Daily. Wire.

“The form also asks: “Do you or a member of your immediate family, separately or together, have an interest valued at more than $5,000 in real estate? DO NOT include your primary residence.’ He checked “no” and did not list the Midlothian house. Property records show she and her husband have owned it, worth nearly $600,000, since 1999,” the company report continues.

Here’s the key: The form makes it abundantly clear that “making any false statement or entry on this document is a felony under Virginia law” punishable by “a maximum fine of $2,500 and/or imprisonment for up to ten years.”

The release of all these findings comes days after Hashmi won an election against Hayden Fisher, a Republican. Speaking to The Daily Wire, Fisher said he plans to cause an uproar over Hasmi’s clearly fraudulent living situation.

“I plan to stop them from certifying the election. He’s disqualified. That means I ran unopposed by law. There’s no question that she doesn’t live in that apartment. She definitely, clearly, intentionally lied on that form. And she didn’t he resides in the district, so he does not have to represent it,” he said.

“He made no genuine effort to actually move into the district, he just rented an apartment. Why don’t you sell your house and move into the neighborhood? He just doesn’t even care. The arrogance is mind-boggling.” added.

“Even if you just look at the document itself, she says she lives in this apartment and did not indicate that she has a secondary residence, when it is a matter of public record that she has one. Number one, it’s a crime, number two, the electoral board should remove it. If she cares about democracy the way she and the Democrats say they care about democracy, then she should voluntarily grant me this election,” he continued.

He also said that Hashmi’s votes should be declared invalid and he should automatically be certified as the winner of the election.

“Holding a new election would not be appropriate because it would not punish conduct, he said, and because of the Democrats’ new law requiring 45 days of early voting, it would be enormously costly to taxpayers and candidates, and would leave residents of the district. without a senator for months,” according to The Daily Wire.

“Should the commonwealth pay for a special election because the Democratic nominee was dishonest?” he said in his own words.

In response to these findings, conservative X users expressed no surprise at Hashmi’s alleged Democratic dishonesty:
