Body camera footage recently released by the Knoxville Police Department sheds light on the harrowing events of April 27 when 25-year-old Jamauri Griffin confronted law enforcement officers. The disturbing video captured Griffin firing a handgun at point blank range into the face of a 23-year-old woman inside her residence.
Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, while the victim was rushed to hospital for medical treatment following the incident.

The footage, recorded by officers Hunter Powers and Cayden Riddle's body cameras, was released by the department on May 8. The video includes a chilling slow-motion segment of the encounter, which was revealed moments after officers entered the facility.
On the morning of April 27, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Officers Powers and Riddle responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on Santala Drive. A concerned caller had reported that a gunman had arrived at the home and prompted the police to intervene.

Upon entering the home and identifying themselves as law enforcement officers, Officers Powers and Riddle quickly confronted Griffin, who was brandishing a firearm and standing dangerously close to the woman. In a quick and alarming turn of events, Griffin raised his gun and shot the woman directly in the face after the officers announced.
Faced with imminent danger, the two officers reacted quickly, firing several rounds at Griffin, striking him at least once. The entire confrontation, from the officers entering the residence to the moment Griffin was incapacitated, took less than 5 seconds.
After the exchange of gunfire, the officers secured the gun Griffin was wielding and provided assistance to the injured woman, ensuring her safety and well-being after the traumatic event.
The victim was later taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the face. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that his injuries were classified as life-threatening, offering a glimmer of hope amid this tragic episode.
