The struggle of the Memphis Grizzlies continues with the loss against the Utah Jazz

-

Good afternoon and welcome to Sports News. The Memphis Grizzlies got off to a historically bad start in 2023, losing their first six games of the season before finally winning against the Portland Trail Blazers on November 5th. On Friday night, Memphis fell to 1-8 with a loss to the Utah Jazz, giving them the worst record in the NBA.

The Grizzlies’ struggles continued Friday night as they fell to the Utah Jazz, 121-105. Utah went to the free throw line 29 times to just 13 for Memphis, and Grizzlies center Jaren Jackson received two technical fouls in the third quarter, leading to his ejection.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins, who also received a technical, unloaded in the office after the game. “One of the least officiated games I’ve ever seen,” Jenkins said. “Record it. I’m fine with that. F, atrocious.”

The Grizzlies are without star guard Ja Morant for the first 25 games of the 2023-23 season after a second incident where he appeared to fire a gun on social media. They are also without big man Steven Adams, who will miss the season after knee surgery.

Despite the Grizzlies’ struggles, Jenkins said his team is competing hard. “Our team is competing with their a, off,” Jenkins added. “Competing with his a, off, and that’s what’s going on? The interaction right now with the officials, total disrespect.”

Utah’s win snapped a four-game losing streak, but they allowed Memphis to get back into the game in the fourth quarter after blowing a 21-point lead.

Jazz coach Will Hardy said it was a good learning moment for his young players. “It’s a good learning moment for our young players that when the game gets rough, especially on the road, and the arena gets rough, we have to find a way to keep our composure,” Hardy said.

Lauri Markkanen and Jordan Clarkson led Utah with 26 points each. “It’s a good experience,” Markkanen said of staying in the lead for the stretch. “Obviously, it wasn’t pretty. A win is a win.”

In other news, Heat star Jimmy Butler applauded a courtside caller, saying, “I bought my house with cash.”
