The son shoots and kills the mother's boyfriend who was beating the uncle with brass knuckles [VIDEO]

The Cape Coral Police Department held a press conference Thursday to address the shooting incident that resulted in a fatality in the City of Cape Coral near NW 25th Place.

According to reports, at 10:06 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, a call was made to 9-1-1 reporting a man shot. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Norbert Mess Junior (DOB 5/24/1969) with gunshot wounds in a field adjacent to the street. Despite receiving immediate help, Mess was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m.

Following the events, the Violent Crimes Unit was alerted and began an investigation.

Investigators determined that prior to the 9-1-1 call, Norbert Mess and his girlfriend were involved in a dispute, prompting the woman to call her brother for help.

Upon the brother's arrival at the residence, Mess confronted him with a wooden rod and brass knuckles.

During the confrontation, the woman's younger son witnessed his uncle's assault, forcing him to retrieve a firearm to try to intervene.

When Mess persisted in his attack despite the warning, the son, fearing for his uncle's life, fired multiple shots, fatally wounding Mess. Subsequently, the brass knuckles were found in the possession of Mess.

As part of the investigative process, search warrants were executed on NW 13th Place and NW 25th Place.

All individuals involved cooperated with the investigation, leading detectives to conclude that the son had acted in self-defense to protect his mother and uncle from serious harm. Accordingly, no charges will be filed.

Authorities emphasized the proliferation of unverified information spread by various media outlets, stressing the need for patience in ongoing investigations and careful disclosure of factual details.

Given the sensitive nature of the case and out of respect for the grieving families, the identities and addresses of those involved in the domestic violence incident will not be released, per police department policy.
