Photographs taken by both law enforcement and FOX31 Reporters on the scene show emergency crews battling flames and smoke billowing from the wrecked plane. Fortunately, the fire appeared to be out shortly after 10 a.m., FOX31 correspondent Samantha Spitz confirmed.
Witnesses revealed that local residents gathered to rescue survivors from the wreckage. One of those witnesses, Evan Sherlock, told his story in a live interview with FOX31. Sherlock, who was on his way to buy mulch for his front yard, described how he noticed a low-flying plane exhibiting erratic movements and a steep droop of its wings.

Sherlock initially continued his journey, but upon checking his rearview mirror, he discovered that the plane was gone. He immediately made a U-turn and was dismayed to find the downed plane in the front yard of a nearby house.
“I couldn't believe that was what I just saw. I was hoping he was doing something else,” Sherlock explained, visibly shocked. “I saw smoke coming out of it, and at first it looked like crop dust. And then I said, 'No way, why would you make dust in Arvada?'” But obviously something was mechanically wrong with the 'plane, and it was too low for me to do anything safe.”
Debris from the crash was strewn across the front yard of the affected residence, serving as a haunting reminder of the tragic incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash, as questions about the plane's mechanical failure remain unanswered.
