“Racial inclusion” was out in the open as a retailer offered a discount for completing a course on “privilege” with ironic undertones about its own customer base.
Asserting that San Francisco, California's main export remained woke ideology, outdoor clothing and gear retailer The North Face launched an exclusive new promotion for its European consumers nearly 60 years after it was founded there.
Called “Allyship in the Outdoors,” the store's website lured customers across the Atlantic to take “A Digital Course on Racial Inclusion and Alliance Created by The North Face” in exchange for a one-time discount of 20 % in their products.
“At The North Face, we believe in the power of exploration. As individuals, professionals and companies who share a love of the outdoors and exploration, we also have a responsibility to support spaces where everyone feels that belongs,” read the course description. “This 1-hour digital course is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the unique challenges people of color face when accessing the outdoors.”
In the lessons that required answering multiple-choice questions to advance to the coupon there was an attribution to Black Lives Matter for sparking “a new outdoor awakening that racial inclusion and representation matters in sports” after ” George Floyd was killed by the police.”
Elsewhere, in a piece shared online that prompted author and cartoonist Scott Adams to react simply by stating “Disgusting,” the course spoke of privilege, writing: “Particularly in this context, we mean 'privilege white,” meaning that your race and skin. Color can give you access to the outdoors when others may be excluded because of racism and historical and enduring prejudice.”

In addition, the course instructed clients to report instances in which their peers referred them to management as “woke,” presumably for disciplinary purposes.
Reacting to the premise of the rebate program, Free Speech Union founder Toby Young he said The Sun, “The irony is that The North Face is implicitly acknowledging here that all its customers are white.”
“After all, why should black customers take a course on 'white privilege' to get a 20% discount? But if all the customers are white,” he continued, “I shouldn't be examining the beam with his own eye?”
For now, it seemed that reaping the benefits of embracing Marxist ideology was beyond the privilege of those on this side of the pond, as the successful completion of the course detailed: “To thank you for become an ally and complete the full course, The North Face is pleased to offer you a one-time 20% discount, to be used on The North Face website, using a unique code “not applicable to those who they access the course from North America.”
The record showed California shoppers weren't deterred and took advantage of a five-finger discount.
