The New York Times columnist says what they did to Biden is a coup [VIDEOS]

Maureen Dowd, New York Times columnist described Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race as a “coup” orchestrated by influential Democrats in a column published Sunday.

Dowd's comment came after Joe Biden announced in late July that he would drop out of the race.

That decision came after intense behind-the-scenes pressure from prominent Democratic figures who reportedly had privately urged him to step aside.

Top Democratic leaders, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have consistently denied any involvement in a coordinated effort to oust Biden.

In his column, Dowd stated, “Even though it was the right thing to do, because Joe Biden wouldn't be able to campaign, let alone serve as president for another four years, in a totally vital way, it was jaw-dropping. – putsch fall

Dowd argued that the decision to kick Biden out of the race was motivated by declining poll numbers and a perceived need to prioritize the interests of the party and the country over Biden's personal ambitions.

Dowd noted that top Democrats, including Pelosi and Schumer, have been unable to communicate with Biden since his exit from the race.

She wrote: “One of the most ruthless and successful tacticians in the history of Congress seemed embarrassed about stabbing his friend and conflicted about whether to take credit. What about you, Nancy? Biden must have thought.

Despite this, Pelosi has publicly praised Biden, suggesting that his legacy is important, even suggesting that it belongs on Mount Rushmore.

Dowd pointed to the tension within the party, noting that Kamala Harris was left waiting for the support of key figures such as Obama and Pelosi, who were initially hesitant to support her.

Dowd also mentioned that Harris' staff was adding more and more of its own people, creating more friction.

After her announcement, Biden quickly endorsed Kamala Harris as her successor, although other prominent Democrats took their time to publicly support her.

Dowd concluded, “Those who kicked out Biden should be proud. They saved him and his party from a likely crushing defeat, letting Trump come back in and ruin democracy.”

Former Biden chief of staff Ron Klain criticized the move in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Wednesday.

Klain described efforts to remove Biden as “misguided” and argued that Biden had legitimately secured the nomination through the democratic process and was committed to winning another term.
