The new poll wants you to believe that Nikki Haley leads Biden by an impressive 17 points

-

Fresh fodder for the primary campaigns found only one GOP hopeful crossing the victory threshold in a head-to-head matchup that beat President Joe Biden by 17 points.

With results sure to upset former President Donald Trump, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley not only managed to beat Biden in a hypothetical general election held now, but did so by over 50% of the vote.

The results of a Wall Street Journal poll conducted jointly with Democratic and Republican pollsters GBAO Strategies and Fabrizio Lee, respectively, placed the former South Carolina governor over the White House incumbent 51 percent to 34 percent. of respondents between November 29 and December. 4.

A breakdown of those numbers showed that if the election were held today, 36 percent would definitely vote for Haley while 15 percent probably would. By comparison, 24% would definitely vote for Biden and 10% were likely, with 15% remaining undecided.

For Trump vs. Biden, it was 47-43% and for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, it was a 45-45% tie.

A look at those numbers showed that only 10% of respondents remained undecided if Trump was the GOP nominee, and that he beat Haley with 40% definite voters, while only getting 7% likely . Similarly, Biden secured an additional 13% of definite voters, which increased that number to 37% with only 6% of respondents marked as likely.

The head-to-head matchup between Biden and DeSantis saw the incumbent gain 2% more definite voters in their 45-45% split.

For context, the poll showed 419 registered Republican voters out of 1,500 total registered respondents, as a specific leading question found that 59% of Republican voters are behind Trump, 15% behind Haley and 14% behind by DeSantis.

Only 91% said they would definitely vote in their state's primary or caucus.

Additionally, nearly half of respondents indicated they “might change their mind and vote for someone else” as their respective state primaries and general elections approach.

Other details of the poll found that about a third of Trump voters in a matchup against Biden were just one vote against the incumbent compared to 51% of Biden voters who would say the same against Trump.

Similar responses were not filed with respect to Haley and DeSantis.

In addition, respondents were also asked to weigh a possible felony conviction for Trump, in which the former president lost 2% of the final voters and Biden won 5%, allowing him to overcome the victory between 46% and 45%.

Meanwhile, Haley's communications director, Nachama Soloveichik, touted another poll detail in favor of the ambassador over a generic candidate. “Nikki Haley Leads Generic Poll by 12 Points!… Both Trump and DeSantis Underperform Generic Poll.”

With just over five weeks to go before Iowa caucuses decide the first consequential metric for the 2024 Republican presidential primary, it remains to be seen what the actual voters will decide. Still, the most telling trend of all was Biden's growing disapproval rating, which had sunk to 54% on August 22 but had steadily climbed to 61% by the time did this survey.
