The horrific incident took place on July 27, 2022 in Frederick, Maryland. Hamilton was raped and strangled to death inside her own trailer, which she shared with the suspect, who allegedly sublet the property to another undocumented migrant. The suspect was arrested in January 2023 after authorities matched his DNA with crime scene evidence. He now faces charges of first-degree murder, rape and robbery, with a trial scheduled for June 28.

Additionally, Claypool points to the Department of Health and Human Services' responsibility for allowing the suspect to enter a holding facility without confirming his verified sponsor, a family member with a known and verified identity.
