I have suggested that fire is our first technology. Its profound and transformative impact, even today, is so powerful that its mythical source is divine. We begin at that point where Prometheus stole fire from the gods and disrupted the divine order to challenge their authority. Somehow, it seems to happen again incarnated as artificial intelligence.
AI emerges not just as a technological breakthrough, but as a modern Prometheus. Like this mythical figure who stole fire from the gods to bestow on humanity, AI has, in a sense, “stolen” knowledge, or rather, made accessible vast areas of information and knowledge that were previously outside the our reach This act, like that of Prometheus, ignited a new spark of human achievement, heralding an era of unprecedented cognitive expansion and controversy. And in the inspiring words of the late President John F. Kennedy, the “technology torch” has been passed to a new generation.
Enlightenment and disruption
AI, in its Promethean role, is a double-edged sword, embodying both enlightenment and disruption. On the one hand, it has democratized knowledge, broken down barriers to access to information and boosted innovation on a hitherto unimaginable scale. People, businesses and societies are empowered with data-driven insights, fueling advances in every field from medicine to education. AI's contribution to human progress from this perspective is unequivocal, a true testament to its role as a catalyst for human potential.
