The military defends the use of generative artificial intelligence by soldiers, as other services hesitate | louder.news

The Army wants its leaders to promote the use of generative artificial intelligence on base as a means to make jobs easier for soldiers, according to a new memo, even as other services have been hesitant to endorse such tools for regular use.

The service, not normally known for adopting the cutting edge of new technology, appears to be the first branch of the military to encourage the use of commercial AI like ChatGPT, although troops are already relying on it to write notes, recommendations of prizes and, the majority. in particular, comprehensive assessments, among other time-consuming administrative tasks.

But services like the Space Force and Navy have urged caution or banned the tools altogether, citing security concerns, as artificial intelligence has swept through the Internet and consumer technology in the U.S. and across the world, promising to automate many tasks that have so much. so far it has only been done by people.

“Commanders and senior leaders should encourage the use of Gen AI tools for their appropriate use cases,” Leonel Garciga, the Army's chief information officer, wrote in a memo to the force on June 27.
