The Harry Potter TV series features executive producer and showrunner

-

The upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series has named Emmy Award-winning director Mark Mylod as executive producer and multi-episode director. Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on “Succession” and “His Dark Materials,” has been named showrunner. Mylod and Gardiner will executive produce alongside series author JK Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and Heyday Films' David Heyman. The as-yet-untitled series will run over a decade, with each of the seven books adapted into a separate season.

While no casting or writing announcements have been made, and no official premiere date has been announced, the series is expected to premiere on HBO and the Warner Bros. streaming service. Discovery Max in 2026. The TV series, which was first rumored to be in development in 2021 and formally ordered in 2023, is being hailed as a “faithful adaptation” of the blockbuster franchise. Rowling has praised HBO for its commitment to “preserving the integrity” of the books and believes the new adaptation will allow for greater depth and detail that can only be achieved through a long-running television series.

The series aims to rectify some of the criticism of the original film adaptations, which were accused of leaving out several significant plot points and character details. The new adaptation promises to introduce a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of fantastic details and much-loved characters that have been adored by “Harry Potter” fans for over twenty-five years.

The “Harry Potter” series, which began with the release of the first book in 1997, has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide in 80 languages. The original film series grossed $2.39 billion domestically across eight films and launched the careers of child actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The series also featured iconic British actors such as Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Gary Oldman. The franchise has since expanded to include a stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and a series of spin-off films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The upcoming TV series promises to bring the magical adventures of Harry Potter to new audiences around the world.
