Kamala Harris's campaign has been trapped convolutedly manipulating news headlines in Google search results to give the impression of broad media support, according to a report by axes.

The altered headlines, which include a “Paid for Harris for President” banner, were altered without the original media's knowledge.
Among those affected are major publications such as The Guardian, Reuters, CBS News, The Associated Press and PBS, along with smaller outlets such as North Dakota's WDay Radio.
Holy Smokes Kamala is editing news headlines into her ads in an effort to rewrite history, and she's not even getting approval from outlets.

The ads, while linking to legitimate articles, have had their headlines and descriptions tweaked to create a more favorable image of Harris.
For example, an ad linked to a Guardian article shows the headline “VP Harris fights abortion ban – Harris defends reproductive freedom”, with supporting text that reads: “VP Harris is a defender of the reproductive freedom and will stop Trump's abortion bans.”
Similarly, an ad linked to an NPR story reads, “Harris will lower health care costs,” with accompanying text stating, “Kamala Harris will lower the cost of affordable, high-quality health care.”

The companies affected, including CNN, USA Today and NPR, have said they were unaware of their involvement in this campaign.
A spokesperson for The Guardian commented: “While we understand why an organization might want to align itself with The Guardian's trusted brand, we need to ensure that it is used appropriately and with our permission. We will Contact Google for more information about this practice.”
The revelation of this tactic comes at a time when Harris has been notably absent from the press, avoiding meaningful interviews or public appearances since he secured the presidential nomination more than three weeks ago.
