Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Turner told Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Monday that he would have looked “guilty” if former President Donald Trump had died in the recent assassination attempt on him.
He is called a 20-year-old Thomas Michael Crooks came within range of Trump by climbing onto the roof of a building near his rally, killing former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore and wounding two rally goers, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74. During an oversight hearing Monday, Turner told Cheatle that President Joe Biden had of being fired because of the failures that led to the tragic incident that Trump survived with an ear injury.

“Have you read or been briefed on the intelligence of the recent specific threat to Donald Trump from Iran?” Turner asked, to which Cheatle answered in the affirmative.
“[FBI Director Christopher] Wray, when we were getting our information, indicated that he thought the threat assessment should have included that threat from Iran,” Turner continued. “Your testimony today is that the assessment of the 'threat, since you read this information, was it enough to protect you from this threat from Iran?'
After Turner pressed Cheatle on the adequacy of the threat assessment two more times, Cheatle said, “I think so.”
US authorities were aware of an alleged Iranian plot to kill Trump before Saturday's assassination attempt, and the Secret Service reportedly increased protections for Trump. There is no known link between the alleged Iranian plot and Crooks' attempt.
“Are ISIS terrorists and al-Qaeda terrorists and international groups and terrorists more capable than a 20-year-old to carry out a mass shooting or an assassination of Donald Trump?” Turner asked.
Cheatle did not respond, but acknowledged that “there was clearly a breakdown and a failure that day.”
“Because Donald Trump is alive, and thank God he is, you look incompetent. If Donald Trump had been killed, you would have looked guilty,” Turner said. “There is no aspect of this that indicates there was any protection for Donald Trump.”
Turner that the president should force Cheatle out if he did not resign.
“Not only do you need to resign, but if you refuse to do so, President Biden needs to fire you, because his life, Donald Trump's life and all the other people you protect are in danger because you don't no concept of how the security footprint should correlate with the threat.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday he called because Cheatle will resign because of the assassination attempt as well as her answers when faced with media issues. cheatle has said she will not give up her role despite the reaction about possible security lapses that contributed to Trump's ear injury from a sniper's bullet during his rally in Pennsylvania.
Andrew McCabe, former deputy director of the FBI said That this alleged plot by Iran was reported on Tuesday makes the assassination attempt “even more egregious.”
