A donor who backed Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' presidential campaign said Monday that the indictment of former President Donald Trump by a Manhattan grand jury has upended the Republican primary.
DeSantis Abandoned of the Republican primary race on Sunday in a video published on X, formerly known as Twitter, less than a week after Trump he won the Iowa caucuses. Hal Lambert, CEO of Point Bridge Capitalthe charges said in the March 2023 indictment make sure Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg modified the campaign.

“If you look at the polls, in March they were actually very close,” Lambert told Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto. “And as soon as the Alvin Bragg indictment came out, the polls started spreading and you had heaps more of other indictments and it never came back. Donald Trump, people rallied around him at that time , and it became very difficult.”
Charges against Trump stemmed from $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during Trump's 2016 run for the White House.
Lambert also noted that Trump benefited from his past tenure in the White House.
“I had the position, like you said,” he told Cavuto. “Look, you know, Ford beat Reagan in the '70s, you know, and Ford was in office and Reagan was a great candidate, but Ford beat him. So, you know, most people run , the first time they run, most don't win the first time. It's usually the second time people get the nomination.”
Trump will face former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.
