As migrants continue to cross the southern border illegally in record numbers, CBP has closed ports of entry in San Ysidro, California, Lukeville, Arizona, El Paso and Eagle Pass, Texas, diverting more than 100 employees from the Office of Field Operations, as well as law enforcement personnel from other agencies to assist the Border Patrol, the CBP spokesman said. The agency has also enlisted the assistance of the Bureau of Prisons to help transport illegal immigrants.

“The levels of encounters we are currently seeing on the Southwest border present a serious challenge to the men and women of CBP. To meet this challenge, we are using all available resources to ensure the safety of our agents and officers, and of migrants who are often deceived and victimized by transnational criminal organizations,” Troy A.
