The Feds express their concern about the new way that feeds the migrant crisis

-

US officials are encountering a growing number of migrants from the African nation of Senegal who are taking advantage of a new route to reach the southern border, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told the Daily Caller on Wednesday News Foundation.

There are groups posing as travel agencies in Senegal's capital that help migrants reach the US-Mexico border by obtaining a visa to travel through the European Union, the spokesman said. The Border Patrol had more than 23,000 migrants detained as of Tuesday evening, seconds to internal agency data obtained by the DCNF.

“Pseudo-legitimate travel agencies are springing up in cities like Dakar that advertise travel to the US. They advertise visa-free travel to Europe to Senegalese, which when you get a Schengen visa allows you to travel to the Western Hemisphere,” said the spokesman CBP

“They sell complete packages to connect them to a smuggling organization that will then facilitate their movement to the border,” the spokesman added.

A Border Patrol agent who has detained some Senegalese migrants in recent weeks told the DCNF that it is difficult to screen them because they will be heard speaking English before interviews when they say they do not speak the language.

“They'll talk and you start asking questions and all of a sudden they don't speak English,” the agent said.

As migrants continue to cross the southern border illegally in record numbers, CBP has closed ports of entry in San Ysidro, California, Lukeville, Arizona, El Paso and Eagle Pass, Texas, diverting more than 100 employees from the Office of Field Operations, as well as law enforcement personnel from other agencies to assist the Border Patrol, the CBP spokesman said. The agency has also enlisted the assistance of the Bureau of Prisons to help transport illegal immigrants.

“The levels of encounters we are currently seeing on the Southwest border present a serious challenge to the men and women of CBP. To meet this challenge, we are using all available resources to ensure the safety of our agents and officers, and of migrants who are often deceived and victimized by transnational criminal organizations,” Troy A. Miller, acting senior official of the Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement to the DCNF.

“These smugglers are recklessly endangering migrants – in remote locations across the border, on top of trains or in the waters of the Rio Grande River. We continue to pursue smugglers and are implementing new measures to impose consequences on transportation, including bus and van lines used by smuggling organizations and nefarious actors to move migrants across northern Mexico and toward our southwest border,” Miller added, saying the agency needs. financing of Congress to address the issue.
