House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told CNN's “The Lead” Friday that he believed Hunter Biden was indicted by U.S. Attorney David Weiss on nine federal charges Thursday to protect the his father, President Joe Biden.
Comer said: “What he was charged with, with that indictment last night, had nothing to do with all the so-called loans that the Bidens have taken out. We've identified, apparently, with the president's son and brother , over $14 million in loans where they don't appear to have made any payments, principal or interest. And at what point do those loans, if you're not going to pay them back, turn into income?
Comer added, “So we think this is just the tip of the iceberg. We think there are many more crimes. And my concern is that Weiss charged Hunter Biden to protect him from having to be impeached in the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.”
Host Jake Tapper said: “Oh yeah, yeah. He charged him to protect him. Yeah, the classic rubric. He charged him to protect him. I got it.”
Comer said, “Well, look, this whole thing, Jake, you know, it's all been about a cover-up. You know you've got two serious…
Tapper said, “Is that why he charged him, to protect him? To cover it up?”
Comer said, “Look, you're accusing him of the smallest thing, the gun charge and not paying taxes.”
Tapper said, “He faces up to 17 years in prison. These are felonies.”
Comer said, “Yeah, but look what he's done. Anyone else in America would be in jail by now. He can owe $7 or $8 million if the loans are fraudulent, a loan means you're going to pay it back. Look, in the end of the day, that money comes from bad people all over the world. Why are they paying Hunter Biden? We think it's because they want direct access to Joe Biden. I don't think any American would want a president who is committed to our enemy anymore great in the world, China”.
