Top social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate are facing allegations of tax evasion on £21m of income from their online businesses between 2014 and 2022. The allegations have been brought by Devon and Cornwall Police, who are making a civil claim. against the brothers and an unidentified third party, known only as J.
The court has been told that the Tate brothers have a significant number of UK bank accounts, seven of which are currently frozen. Police are trying to recover approximately £2.8m from these accounts. The funds in question have been described as being “laundered around UK bank accounts” and used as a conduit to move the proceeds of their business activities.
The Tate brothers' income comes primarily from their online businesses, including their OnlyFans sites. Sarah Clarke KC, representing Devon and Cornwall Police, branded the brothers “serial tax and VAT evaders”, particularly Andrew Tate, who has been openly defying his refusal to pay tax .
The brothers, who hold dual US and British citizenship, are accused of tax evasion and money laundering in both the UK and Romania. It is claimed they deposited just under $12 million into an account in J's name and opened a second account in her name, even though she had no involvement in their businesses. This has been ruled a fraud by false statement by Devon and Cornwall Police.
The court also heard that J moved money into his own account, including an £805,000 payment into his Revolut account. Of this amount, £495,000 was paid to Andrew Tate and £75,000 was paid to an account in J's name, which was later converted into cryptocurrency.
The case has been adjourned until Tuesday, when Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring will decide on the balance of probabilities whether the police's claims are true. Andrew Tate, 37, is a self-proclaimed misogynist with millions of followers, known for promoting an ultra-masculine lifestyle. Tristan Tate, 35, is a former kickboxer turned social media influencer like his brother.
