Deputies in the Jurupa Valley had to make a decision in a fraction of a second on Saturday, June 8, in the face of a man who not only stabbed himself but then charged at them with a knife.
The incident unfolded shortly after 11:10 a.m. when law enforcement received a call about a person at 53rd Street and Cedar Street who appeared disoriented and bleeding, the sheriff's office confirmed of Riverside County (RSO).

Upon arrival, officers quickly realized the man needed immediate medical attention.
However, the situation escalated when, out of nowhere, the individual pulled out a knife and began to self-inflicted wounds.
Instead of stopping there, he proceeded to charge one of the deputies, leaving them no choice but to resort to a deputy-involved shooting.
The man was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
There were no other injuries as a result of the incident.
