In a thrilling display of bravery and self-defense, Phoenix police officers faced off to the death with a wanted criminal on Jan. 5 at a car dealership near 87th Avenue and Bell Road in Peoria. Phoenix police officers fugitive apprehension and investigations detail were in the process of arresting notorious Junior Reyes, a 30-year-old felon wanted on multiple charges, including assaulting law enforcement and unlawful possession of firearms .

What should have been a routine arrest quickly turned into a heart-pounding shootout. According to authorities, Reyes brazenly pulled out a semi-automatic handgun, prompting a chilling exchange of gunfire between him and the officers. As proof of their unwavering determination, three detectives bravely threw down their weapons while another bravely employed a less lethal foam projectile launcher.

Never-before-seen body camera footage captured the thrilling events that took place that day. When a detective approaches Reyes and orders him to surrender with his hands up, chaos erupts. Reyes, ignoring the officer's instructions, recklessly draws his firearm and opens fire, forcing the detective to seek shelter inside a nearby building. Although injured during the skirmish, the detective showed exceptional resilience and was quickly released from the hospital later that day.

Additional body camera footage, recorded by three other detectives who bravely took on the dangerous suspect, further illuminates the intense battle. Approaching Reyes from different angles, the detectives bravely faced each other, demanding compliance with their authoritative voices. However, Reyes, consumed by a blatant disregard for the law, brazenly charged the officers, brandishing his deadly weapon and spraying bullets in their direction.

In a nail-biting sequence, an officer heroically advances on Reyes from behind a building, firing his weapon to neutralize the impending threat. Temporarily grounded by the confrontation, he quickly gets up and reassures his fellow officers, “I'm fine, I'm fine.” The relentless officers remain resolutely engaged, returning fire until Reyes succumbs to their justified force. “The suspect is down,” declares one of the officers, immediately moving forward to arrest and detain him.

Reyes was unable to overcome the consequences of his criminal actions and succumbed to his injuries while being treated at a local hospital. It is critical to recognize that the brave men and women of law enforcement acted solely in self-defense and were able to recover the firearm Reyes wielded during the shooting.
