K8 news reported that police arrived to find two vehicles driving away from the scene. During a probable cause search, officers discovered a wallet containing Zadarius Merritt's ID at the scene of the shooting.
Witnesses and the victim provided descriptions of the suspect and the weapon used, leading detectives to positively identify Merritt as the shooter.
On Wednesday, June 19, Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Merritt with first-degree battery, setting his bond at $75,000. If Merritt is able to post bail, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor and comply with a no-contact order issued by a judge.
