A group of New York Republicans led by Rep. Elise Stefanik is urging New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to go along with the program.
On Friday, the group, consisting of Stefanik, Nick Langworthy, Nicole Maliotakis, Brandon Williams, Claudia Tenney, Nick LaLota, Marc Molinaro, Michael V. Lawler and Anthony D'esposito, sent a letter to Hochul imploring him to act as refers to the border.

Specifically, they called for him to do his part to secure the northern border and also lend his support to Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who is currently locked in a border skirmish with President Joe Biden.
“Given the influx of illegal immigrants into New York, we urge you to make efforts to secure the northern border and support Texas Governor Greg Abbott in his efforts to do the same for our southern border “, said. he wrote.
“With Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas refusing to act, it's time for our governors to take decisive action to protect their citizens and our country,” the nine Republicans continued.
As for why he should take action, Republicans pointed to their own words. A few days earlier, the governor had written a letter to Biden complaining about the border situation.
In the letter, he openly described the situation as a “crisis” and warned that “[s]States and cities cannot respond indefinitely to the subsequent strain on state and local resources” caused by so many illegal alien migrants crossing the open border.
Without action from Washington, our economy, states and communities will continue to bear the brunt of the shortcomings of the existing immigration system.

And yet, the nine Republicans wrote, Hochul has been silent in the face of the controversy that has erupted in Texas.
“As someone who has described the invasion of our southern border as a 'crisis' … we were surprised when we didn't see you join 25 of your
fellow governors in supporting Texas Governor Greg Abbott's efforts to secure the US southern border,” they wrote.
“Instead, your recent budget proposal increased funding to support illegal immigrants while cutting funding for schools across the state,” the Republicans added.
As previously reported, Texas has installed razor wire along the border to stem the flow of illegal alien migrants. The problem is that the Biden administration wants to cut the razor wire. That has sparked a showdown that pits the administration against 25 states, including Texas.

Stefanik and the other Republicans continued their letter by laying out exactly how President Biden's border policies are destroying the country.
“Joe Biden and his failed far-left policies have broken the constitutional compact between the federal government and the states,” they wrote. “It has turned every state into a border state and every community into a border community.”
“There have been more than 8 million illegal crossings since Joe Biden took office, with 242,418 illegals found in November 2023 alone. The southern border has seen 312 encounters with people on the terrorist watch list, while encounters along the Swanton and Buffalo sector of the northern border saw 91,640 illegal encounters last year,” they added.
They further noted that just recently, last month to be precise, “an Iranian national with ties to terrorism [and an arrest warrant for assault] attempted to enter New York illegally through the Niagara Falls port of entry.”
This is true.
“The fugitive attempted to enter the United States on October 10 by presenting himself to US immigration authorities at the Rainbow Bridge Pedestrian Walkway in Niagara Falls,” according to a statement from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement . “Customs and Border Protection agents denied him entry into the United States and returned him to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) the same day.”
“Two days later, on October 12, the United States Border Patrol arrested him as he was illegally entering the United States from Canada at the Whirlpool Bridge Port of Entry or in the vicinity of Niagara Falls without being admitted or paroled by a designated immigration officer,” the release said. keep on.
How many have we lost? It is estimated that we catch 2/3 of illegal crossings. At current numbers, this extrapolates to over 1.5 million successful illegal entries.
What percentage was like this guy? 1% = 15,000 terrorists. 0.1% = 1,500 terrorists. 0.01% = 150.https://t.co/NQUh6REG5W pic.twitter.com/g5nTgamhMQ

Republicans also took aim at Hochul for not doing his own job.
“As high numbers of illegal immigrants cross our borders and bleed into New York, your refusal to reverse course has created an unsustainable environment that has taken a financial and humanitarian toll on the state,” they said. write.
“New York students have been kicked out of their schools and forced into remote learning while migrants occupy their classrooms, military veterans are being evicted from their homes to make room for illegal immigrants, a sprawling tent city has materialized and, earlier this week, a 3-month-old girl was found dead in a migrant shelter,” they added.
