Vegan influencer Zhanna Samsonova allegedly “starved to death” after subsisting exclusively on a diet of exotic fruits in Malaysia, according to friends and family.
She was 39 years old.
The Russian national, who frequently promoted raw food on social media where she was known to her millions of viewers in Tik Tok, Facebooki Instagram how Zhanna D’Art — He appears to have died on July 21 after finally seeking medical treatment while on tour in Southeast Asia, according to local media reports.
“A few months ago, in Sri Lanka, she already looked exhausted, with swollen legs oozing lymph,” an unidentified friend told Newsflash. “They sent her home for treatment. However, she ran away again. When I saw her in Phuket, I was horrified.”
Her friend added: “I lived one floor above her and every day I was afraid to find her lifeless body in the morning. I convinced her to seek treatment, but she didn’t get it.”
Samsonova’s mother also attributed her daughter’s death to a “cholera-like infection.”
However, his official cause of death has not been declared.
An advocate of no-cook herbivore cuisine, the Kasan native claimed to eat one “completely raw vegan diet” for the past four years, consuming only “fruit, sunflower seed sprouts, fruit smoothies and juices.”
Meanwhile, a friend claimed that for the past seven years, Samsonova had only eaten the giant, sweet jackfruit and they would lasta pointed, mace-like fruit known for its creamy flesh and noxious smell
“I see my body and mind transform every day,” Samsonova had said as she described her restrictive diet. “I love my new self, and I’ll never go back to the habits I used to.”
The food influencer said her raw food regime was inspired by seeing ‘mates’ who looked much older than their age, which she put down to their ‘junk food’ diets.
She took to social media to spread her raw food doctrine, describing: “I eat simple food, although I have a lot of experience as a raw food chef. I love creating my own recipes and inspiring people to eat healthier”.
Unfortunately, her friends believe her so-called healthy food choices were to blame for her death.
“You don’t have to be a doctor to understand where this is going,” said a friend of his jack and durian diet.
“Zhanna’s idle stagnation was causing her to melt before our eyes, but she thought everything was fine,” another theorized. “Only her eyes, her happy eyes and her magnificent hair, compensated for the terrible sight of a body tortured by idiocy. Forgive me if I sound harsh.”
while a raw food diet can have multiple health benefits, including weight loss, improved heart health, and a lower risk of diabetes, there are downsides to this regimen, especially when it’s not well planned, according to Healthline.
These include deficiencies of calcium and vitamin D, which are needed for strong bones.
This can also lead to suboptimal B12 levels, which can lead to anemia, nervous system damage, infertility and, somewhat paradoxically, heart disease.
A study published earlier this month in the Journal of nutrition found that 100% of participants on a raw vegan diet consumed less than the recommended 2.4 mcg of vitamin B12 per day.
Despite the potential downsides of Samsonova’s diet, many of her devoted followers refused to believe that her food choices led to her death, instead claiming that the chemicals in the fruit she ate killed her.
Samsonova’s family is awaiting a medical report and a death certificate that will determine her official cause of death.
Samsonova would not be the first to starve to death on a raw food diet.
Last year, Florida vegan mom Sheila O’Leary, 38, was sentenced to life in prison after her 18-month-old son starved to death die by feeding him only small amounts of fruits and vegetables.
