House Speaker Mike Johnson called out Vice President Kamala Harris in a blistering statement about her “unconscionable” choice to reject Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu is scheduled to address Congress on Wednesday, but Harris, now the presumptive Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, has chosen to focus on her campaign with an address at a fraternity event.
Neither Biden nor Harris will be present as the Israeli leader addresses lawmakers, echoing his speech to Congress in 2015 when Biden, then Barack Obama's vice president, skipped the event.
Democrats always seem to have an excuse to boycott the House when Israel's prime minister addresses Congress.
Joe Biden had a weak excuse for missing Netanyahu's last speech in 2015, and now Kamala Harris is skipping his speech tomorrow.

“President Biden, who was the vice president at the time, skipped that address just as our current vice president will boycott the speech,” Johnson (R-LA) said. New York Post in an interview on Tuesday.
“I think this is inconceivable,” he said.
In fact, neither Biden, Harris nor Secretary of State Antony Blinken were on hand to greet Netanyahu when he arrived in Washington, DC on Monday.

“It will emphasize the importance of America's resolve and our support,” Johnson said of Netanyahu's speech. “Israel is in a war for its very survival. It is possibly the most desperate time for Israel since it became a nation-state again.”
“We must present the truth,” the speaker added, “regardless of the political turmoil and everything else that surrounds our politics in a contentious election year.”
Applauding critics who claimed the prime minister's speech was a “political stunt”, Johnson reminded everyone that it was Democratic leaders who blocked Netanyahu from coming earlier this year, before the current political turmoil in US government.
“It is the complete opposite of a political trick. It wasn't his idea, it was mine,” Johnson told The Post. “We made the invitation and I would have done it many months ago.”
“Actually, that was the intention at the beginning of spring, but I couldn't achieve it [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer to co-sign,” he noted.
“Ultimately, he didn't do it until he had enough public pressure,” Johnson said. “And that was a huge frustration for me.”
Netanyahu is reported to be meeting with Harris later this week, though many are questioning to what end, as he clearly put his campaign efforts ahead of government duties. Harris had already scheduled the event where he will address the “Grand Boule” of the historically black Zeta Phi Beta sorority in Indianapolis.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump will meet with Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Friday.
“It's outrageous to me and inexcusable … that Kamala Harris is boycotting this joint session,” Johnson said at a Republican press conference on Tuesday.

“Kamala Harris will leave her seat,” he added. “He won't be there because he refuses to attend. He has to be responsible for that.”
“The idea that [Democrats] We are making political calculations when our ally is in such dire straits, fighting for its survival … is inconceivable to us,” the speaker said, citing other Democrats who will not attend.
Johnson invited Israel's allies to attend the prime minister's speech, as well as relatives of the five American hostages held by Hamas since the October 7 terrorist attack: Edan Alexander, Omer Neutra, Keith Siegel, Sagui Dekel-Chen and Hersh. Goldberg-Polin.
Fox News host Mark Levin, former Minnesota Republican Sen. Norm Coleman, Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matthew Brooks and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jacob Lew will also attend, according to The Post.
