Southwest Airlines offers free seats to overweight people

-

A new Southwest Airlines “size customer” policy offers insight into how cowardly American corporations were so easily fleeced for more than $100 million by the radical Black Lives Matter movement, lots of them. being companies you do business today

Southwest Airlines allows morbidly obese passengers to request a free seat and requires those larger-sized passengers to be accommodated by flight staff, according to the New York Post, which said that means leaving other passengers off the flight if necessary.

The policy, seen below, entitles customers whose bodies “encroach” beyond the armrest to an extra seat at no extra cost:

Customers encroaching on any portion of neighboring seats may proactively purchase the required number of seats prior to travel a Make sure extra seats are available. The armrest it is considered to be the definitive limit between seats; Narrowest and widest passenger seat widths (in inches) are available our Flying Southwest page. As seen above, Southwest skirts around the issue with a gentle request to “proactively purchase” the extra seat to ensure it's available, but makes it clear that morbidly obese people will have a “free” seat, which begs the question of why pay for something that will be given to you for free.

During the summer, Plus Size “Travel Influencer” Jae'lynn Chaney argued that airlines should be forced to accommodate their large size when they wanted to.

Chaney started a Change.org petition demanding a change to “discriminatory” policies that require plus-size travelers to purchase two seats, claiming they have to pay “twice for the same experience.”

“People with smaller bodies can pay a fare to get to their destination,” Chaney told CNN Travel. “We have to pay two rates, even though we are having the same experience. If anything, our experiences are a bit more difficult.”

In October, Caroline, a size 20 travel influencer, posted a video on TikTok praising Southwest's new policy.

“If you're fat, you know the anxiety of flying and this relieves it a lot,” said Caroline. “I had a very comfortable flight with the feeling that I was allowed to take up the space I needed.”

He did not mention whether the extra seat was purchased or whether another passenger was removed from the flight to accommodate her.

One social media user offered his opinion on why Southwest would go this route, suggesting that the Texas-based airline is “checking to raise the established ESG/DEI standard.”

Here's a sampling of responses to the story, as seen in X:
