Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies shot up a man armed with a shotgun Thursday evening, June 13, after shooting at a Sheriff's Department helicopter while standing on the roof of a home in a neighborhood near Compton.
Deputies from the sheriff's Compton station responded to a report of an armed man possibly under the influence in the 14600 block of Cahita Avenue, just south of Rosecrans Avenue, around 7:45 p.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the 30-year-old suspect in the backyard. He then climbed onto the roof of the house, ignoring orders to surrender.
The Sheriff's Department helicopter confirmed that the suspect was armed and firing a shotgun in their direction.
In response to the continued threat, two officers on the ground fired at the suspect as he fired at the helicopter.
The suspect was treated by the sheriff's SWAT team and LA County Fire-Paramedics after being struck by gunfire.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not been released. No civilians or rescuers were injured during the incident.
