In a bold move, investigators had been following Ferguson, closely tracking his movements in South Baltimore after he momentarily left work. Your intention? To investigate him regarding an earlier incident involving the discharge of a firearm, although no casualties have been reported.
As officers rummaged through Ferguson's belongings, they recovered a Springfield .45 semi-automatic pistol from his waistband. In a matter of seconds, he unleashed three rounds in the direction of the officers.
Baltimore Police Assistant Commissioner Brian Nadeau revealed, “It was a semi-automatic Springfield 45; it had an extended magazine, which can hold 27 to 29 rounds.”
Five officers responded with a 39-round barrage in Ferguson's direction
“(The) shot hit him in the vest,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley detailed. “If the vest isn't there, it goes into his heart and probably kills him.”
Nadeau emphasized the critical role of body camera footage in showing the reality of the situation, stating, “He was observed on camera discharging his weapon. The officer who was shot here was doing the investigation ,” highlighting the critical role that video evidence plays in providing crucial information about these critical incidents.
Public records showed Ferguson's troubled past, marked by a litany of violent criminal offenses, including multiple gun and drug charges.
