Sen. Chuck Schumer announces Kamala Harris endorsement, awkwardness ensues [VIDEO]

In a desperate attempt to garner support for the presumptive newly crowned candidate, Kamala HarrisDemocratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer gave his more convincing performance of enthusiasm to an uninterested public. Speaking during a joint news conference Tuesday with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Schumer read a previously prepared statement about the vice president's bid for the presidency.

The news conference also came after both men refrained from announcing their support for Harris. Both were rumored to be considering other options as DNC operatives worked their magic behind the scenes. While Schumer's words were positive, however, her actions didn't seem genuine. Raising his voice slightly, Schumer said America was beginning its “seventh chapter” and it will be the “best.” He also proclaimed that Vice President Kamala Harris “will beat Donald Trump” in November.

Jeffries echoed his colleague's comments, describing Kamala as a capable leader who is “ready” and “willing” to lead the country into the future.

Schumer noted the crowd's lack of response, and even encouraged them to clap in a moment reminiscent of Jeb Bush's “clap” moment. But at least in Jeb's case, he was trying to be funny.
