A routine traffic stop took a dangerous turn on the night of May 13 on Dayton's east side, leaving a police officer injured and a suspect bitten by a dog.
According to Dayton police, the incident unfolded around 10 p.m. when officers stopped a vehicle at Bierce Avenue and South Torrence Street for an expired license plate tag. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Antoine Still, displayed a nervous demeanor and was seen moving objects inside the car, which raised suspicion among officers.

While one of the officers ran the license plates on the vehicle, the other approached Still and asked him to get out of the car. However, Still resisted and refused to comply, leading to a standoff with officers as they attempted to remove him from the vehicle.
The situation quickly escalated when Still put the car in gear and sped off with one of the officers inside the vehicle. A series of events occurred, including the car crashing into parked vehicles before reversing. The officer's attempts to stop Still continued as he closed the passenger side door, causing the vehicle to roll back and stop. Subsequent efforts to apprehend Still led to the deployment of a Taser and a chase, which ultimately resulted in his arrest after he was found hiding nearby.

After the arrest, Still claimed to have suffered broken ribs, a claim refuted by police, who confirmed that he had not suffered any broken bones during the encounter or subsequent arrest.
As a result of the incident, Still faces charges including felonious assault, kidnapping, drug possession and multiple misdemeanors. Additionally, the injured officer was treated at the hospital and has since been released.
Dayton police addressed the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing the potential dangers law enforcement officers face during these encounters. Despite the injuries they have suffered, they are thankful that the incident did not cause more serious damage to those involved.
