According to reports, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. offered to endorse former President Donald Trump in exchange for a health-related job in the Trump administration.
The discussions occurred in the immediate hours after an assassination attempt was made on Trump on Saturday, July 13, according to reports. The Washington Post.
“A person familiar with the conversations said a person who knew both men reached out to Kennedy on Saturday night, hours after Trump's assassination attempt, after Kennedy had made some appearances on cable news for talk about the attack,” the Post reported Monday. “Kennedy said he was open to talking to Trump.”
“Kennedy received a group text message from former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson that included a phone number used by Trump. … This led to a phone call between Trump and Kennedy later that night after Trump had returned to his home in Bedminster, NJ, the person said. Carlson declined to comment,” the Post report continues.
In addition to agreeing to meet at the Republican National Convention, the two also discussed possible health-related administration work for Kennedy, as well as the prospect of Kennedy endorsing Trump.
However, “The talks ended without any definitive conclusion,” the Post noted, citing its sources.

Afterward, Trump aides expressed concern about the plan.
“[T]There was concern among some Trump advisers that Kennedy, a staunch critic of vaccines, would not be a good fit for such a job. [a health-related job] and that this deal could be problematic,” according to the Post.
The good news for those who are RFK fans is that they “didn't rule out that the campaign would eventually take Kennedy to the extreme or give him a job in the administration if Trump wins.”
The Trump campaign, meanwhile, has tried to play down the relevance of the Post report.
“President Trump met with RFK and they had a conversation about the issues as he routinely does with important figures in business and politics because they all recognize that he will be the next president of the United States,” a spokesman told the paper.
As for Kennedy, his campaign continues for now.
“All I will tell you is that I'm willing to talk to either political party that wants to talk about children's health and how to end the chronic disease epidemic,” Kennedy said in an interview Monday.
“I have a lot of respect for President Trump for reaching out to me. No one at the DNC, high or low, has ever reached out to me in 18 months. Instead, they've poured millions into trying to disrupt my campaign,” he added.
In fact, the Democratic National Committee has essentially tried to rig the Democratic primaries to prevent anyone else from challenging President Joe Biden's candidacy.
Of course, that all fell by the wayside after Biden voluntarily withdrew from the campaign on Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement/successor.

All this comes days after a phone call between RFK and Trump was leaked to the public. It is not clear if this was the same phone call that occurred on the date of the assassination attempt.
What is known is that during the phone call, the two men discussed the vaccine against COVID-19.
Trump, for his part, said that after babies consume a certain amount of vaccines, “you see the baby suddenly starts to change radically.”
“When you feed a baby, Bobby, a vaccine that's, like, 38 different vaccines and it looks like it's been for a horse, not a 10- or 20-pound baby,” Trump said on the call. , in accordance with CNN. “And then you see the baby suddenly start to change radically. I've seen it too many times.”
RFJ later apologized to Trump for leaking the call.
“When President Trump called me, I was filming with an in-house videographer,” he said. “I should have ordered the videographer to stop recording immediately. I am mortified that this was published. I apologize to the president.”
