Rasmussen says Trump survived 'Obama bounce', maintains solid lead over Kamala Harris

Former President Donald Trump has survived the so-called “Obama bounce” and is still leading Vice President Kamala Harris despite a concerted media effort to sell her to the nation.

That's not to say the margin hasn't narrowed, but the latest Rasmussen Reports poll finds that in a two-way showdown, 49% of likely US voters would vote for Trump, while 44% would vote for Harris. And that's after the left threw everything behind the VP and Big Tech put a heavy thumb on the scale: see Google's search bias. Democrats even pitched “White Dudes for Harris.”

“I can go into the demographics, but I have a very important chart … that shows what I call the Obama bounce,” Rasmussen Reports senior pollster Mark Mitchell said during an appearance on the War Room podcast on Steve Bannon. “Now, what Trump has basically done is survived a coordinated 'information operation' to try to paint Kamala Harris as super nice and super competent. A lot of coordinated media attention, a lot of coordinated attacks by Donald Trump and JD Vance.”

Referring to the fact that Barack Obama finally endorsed Harris long after President Biden was forced out, Mitchell said the poll showed Harris gaining serious ground after beating Trump by as much as 16 points. .

“And if we had done a poll on the 24th and 25th, we would have actually shown that Donald Trump lost slightly to Kamala Harris,” he said. “Now, that's right when he got Obama's endorsement. But since then, what you can see is that Donald Trump has steadily won that lead and he's up four points on the 30th, 5 points on the 31st. I think what you're seeing there on the chart is literally his bounce fizzled out and Donald Trump is back to what's probably a 4 to 5 point lead right now.”

The poll of 2,163 likely U.S. voters was conducted on July 24-25 and 28-31, and also showed that 4% say they would vote for some other candidate and only 2% are undecided.

“A week ago, Trump led Harris by seven points, 50 percent to 43 percent, in the first poll since President Joe Biden announced he would withdraw his re-election bid,” Rasmussen said.

The polling group also drew a comparison to the 2016 and 2020 elections, with Trump enjoying a large lead over a Democratic opponent.

Real Clear Polling has Trump by 1.2 points as of Aug. 1, though it noted that in 2020 and 2016, Biden and Hillary Clinton had leads on that date.

The Harris-fest hasn't included many unscripted moments for the presumptive nominee, who will almost certainly have to debate Trump after the Democratic National Committee on Aug. 19.

The an unscripted moment involving Harris it didn't go too well for the party. Biden and Harris appeared for a photo op at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to welcome home three Americans fresh out of Russia, and the vice president served up one of her classic word salads.

“This is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that is built on understanding the importance of diplomacy,” he said.
