Pro-Palestinian protesters shut down I-5 in downtown Seattle: Cops have few answers

-

Pro-Palestinian protesters successfully blocked the northbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway in Seattle on Saturday, sparking anger at police for doing nothing to stop the madness.

“A blockade of cars and protesters on the freeway, joined by hundreds of others gathered on nearby overpasses, shut down the northbound lanes of I-5 between Interstate 90 and Mercer Street, prompting a copy of 6 mile safety”. The Seattle Times reported

“Organizers and attendees said they were protesting to draw attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to denounce US support for Israel's military campaign.”

As local radio station KTTH's Jason Rantz reports, the protest began around 1:00 PM PST with protesters taking the I-5 overpass.

They eventually moved onto I-5, where they blocked the northbound lane while shouting pro-Palestinian chants and holding pro-Palestinian signs.

Rantz reported around 2:00 pm PST that it appeared authorities were finally preparing to move in and disperse the protest.

However, as can be seen in additional video tweets posted by Rantz, this never happened, with the police instead holding “meetings” and apparently trying to negotiate with the protesters but ultimately doing nothing.

Correction: The police eventually moved in to help clear the traffic jam that erupted due to the protesters. As for the protesters, they were allowed to continue blocking traffic.

In addition to protesting and blocking traffic, the demonstrators eventually began chanting anti-police slogans and doing some kind of dance.

“Now they are doing a dance. Washington State Patrol command staff should be ashamed,” Rantz tweeted in response to the dance.

Meanwhile, the police continued to do nothing but stand by while the protesters taunted them.

Then, finally, some good news: It started to rain, which made the protesters finally “raining,” according to Rantz.

Rantz, for his part, seemed pleased to be showered on them, but still upset by the police's unwillingness to do anything.

“The state of WA should be ashamed of how it handled the pro-Hamas rally that blocked the I-5 freeway,” he tweeted around 5:00pm PST.

“By not intervening, @wastatepatrol only ensured that it will happen again. This was not a troop problem, it was a command staff problem. They lack leadership and end up supporting anti-Semitism,” he added.

Of course, this has always been the case in Seattle, a far-left city that once embraced the violent Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, even allowing some BLM activists cordon off a part of the city.

To the protesters' credit, they at least apologized to the drivers for disturbing their cars.

“Before authorities began diverting traffic to keep drivers off northbound I-5, protesters handed out fliers to drivers apologizing for the inconvenience and saying, 'We wouldn't have taken this action if we hadn't would have been a life or death emergency for thousands. if not millions, of people,'” notes the Times.

However, the same protesters also left a dozen vehicles on I-5 after they left.

“The State Patrol said tow trucks removed them and the highway reopened shortly after 6 p.m.,” the Times notes.
