President Johnson says Congress will fully investigate Trump's assassination attempt [VIDEO]

House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the recent act of political violence and called for a national response to address security failures and maintain a free society.

Johnson emphasized the need for leaders of all parties to tone down the rhetoric and avoid further violence through collective effort.

“America wakes up to a pretty surreal morning. This is a horrific act of political violence. It should be roundly condemned,” Johnson said. “Obviously, as a society we cannot continue like this. Our prayers are with President Trump, everyone who attended the rally, certainly the family of the person who lost their life and those who were injured.”

Johnson emphasized the importance of addressing security issues, and pointed to his conversations with law enforcement and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“We've had law enforcement briefings. I spoke with Secretary Mayorkas last night and asked him some pointed questions about national security and what happened there.” – Mike Johnson

Johnson announced that Congress would conduct a full investigation into the incident.

“I have already announced that Congress will conduct a full investigation into yesterday's tragedy to determine where there were safety failures and anything else that the American people need to know and deserve to know.” – Mike Johnson

In his call for unity, Johnson stressed the importance of lowering the nation's political temperature.

“In the meantime, we need to reject the rhetoric. We need to turn the temperature down in this country. We need leaders from all parties on both sides to call for this and make sure this happens so we can move forward and keep our free society that we all have lucky to have.” – Mike Johnson
