I think his big problem is that he was letting the RINOs bend his ear too much. I feel like this all went down like that.
The RINOs tell DeSantis Trump is not going to make him VP, which may or may not have been the case at the time. Most vice presidents get the next presidential nomination. So DeSantis is being told he has to run in 2024, otherwise he could be looking at 2036 before his next chance to be the nominee.
Then someone tells Trump DeSantis plans to run, and Trump uses DeSantis. Trump also tells people that DeSantis will not be vice president. So these leaks just make DeSantis want to run early while the iron is hot.
There’s a lot in between, but it brings us to the point where DeSantis tells reporters that Trump lost in 2020, ending any momentum he ever had.
Causing a rift between Trump and DeSantis is a win/win for the left. One will lead to the other, which is what we’re seeing now.
